Microfinish Acid Stain

A microfinish concrete overlay acid or water stain is a process we often do in homes and businesses that had other types of flooring installed. We remove the flooring and apply a cement based resurfacing material that goes on in thin coats and creates a new concrete floor. After applying these coats we then acid stain or water stain the floor.

The microfinish overlay is a little more expensive but it allows us to start with a "clean slate". The overlay material is a custom blend of cement, sand, and glue, and is applied in thin coats. When applied, the overlay buries all holes, cracks, paint, glue marks, and patches, creating a new, smooth floor. After acid or water staining many people comment that the floor has a weathered "leather-like" appearance.

Also, because we are starting with a new floor, we have greater control over the final color. Acid staining is a reactive process and anything that may have come in contact with the concrete, even years ago, can cause color variations. Since we are resurfacing the floor with the microfinish overlay we know that nothing has contaminated it. Generally, in about 90% of remodels where we remove carpet, tile, linoleum, wood, or laminate we end up doing a microfinish overlay acid or water stain because most people love the look of acid staining but want a floor that has a more "finished" appearance.

•   Excellent option for remodel projects that had carpet, tile, linoleum, or wood because it covers up problems

•   Creates a unique "leather like" appearance for the floor

•   Hides almost any floor defect

•   Tighter control of the final color

•   Higher cost than a direct acid stain

•   Microfinish overlay projects take a little longer to complete than direct acid stain projects

Microfinish acid stain overlays are usually priced at $4 - $6 per square foot. Larger projects have a lower cost per square foot than smaller projects. We have a $1,500 minimum for our work. Please give us a call for an estimate or use our Project Estimator for an instant quote.
